Official selection at the Villerupt Italian Film Festival and theatrical release from 20 November in Luxembourg

Tarantula Luxembourg is pleased to announce the official selection of Donato Rotunno’s documentary film ‘La fourchette à gauche’ at the Villerupt Italian Film Festival for its world premiere. The 47th edition of the festival will take place from 25 October to 11 November 2024 in Villerupt and the film will be screened on Thursday 7 November at 8.30pm.

Produced by Tarantula Luxembourg, this ninth documentary by the Luxembourg director was supported by the Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, with the participation of the Circolo Culturale e Recreativo Eugenio Curiel.

The film was shot in Luxembourg over several periods between December 2022 (when the Circolo Curiel closed) and January 2024 (when the building was demolished), including June 2023 at Filmland Studios in Kehlen. The film’s contributors include Luxembourg politicians who spent time within the walls of the Circolo Curiel, such as Claude Turmes, Corinne Cahen, Mars di Bartolomeo and David Wagner, personalities from the world of culture, such as Enrico Lunghi (former director of Mudam) and Alexis Juncosa (artistic director of LuxFilmFest), as well as historic members of the association, such as Giovanni Grilli, a founding member of Curiel, a former Communist activist and witness to the association’s political development; or Franco Barilozzi, founder of the Festival des Migrations, des Cultures et de la Citoyenneté, and former president of the Circolo Curiel, where he was the link between the Italian community and other foreign communities in Luxembourg for many years.

The documentary looks at the ways in which the Circolo Curiel, in its trattoria guise, had a major influence on political and cultural life in Luxembourg.
