Elfriede Jelinek’s Winterreise, staged by director Jakob Arnold, follows individuals adrift in time. Themes of ambition, loss, love, and rootlessness arise from Müller’s poems, set to Schubert’s music. The narrative explores diverse landscapes: banking scandals, media frenzy, dating platforms, and ski lodges, interwoven with reflections on time. Catherine Elsen, Nora Koenig, Nickel Bösenberg and Max Thommes star in this multidisciplinary performance and explore the fragility of human nature in the poetic and oppressive atmosphere of Nobel Prize laureate Jelinek’s piece.
